Student Voice | Fiona’s Thanksgiving Story!

Hi everyone! I’m Fiona. Welcome to my blog of Thanksgiving memories!

Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude, reflection, and celebration. This year, my Thanksgiving break was filled with unforgettable moments shared with friends. From indulging in a Thanksgiving dinner to community service, baking pumpkin bread, and building gingerbread houses… my holiday was a beautiful mix of joy, creativity, and community. Let me share some of the high points.

A Unique Thanksgiving Dinner

This year, instead of the usual turkey and mashed potatoes, my friend invited me to their house for a Thanksgiving feast with a twist. Their menu featured not only traditional Thanksgiving dishes but also delicious Mexican-inspired recipes. We had enchiladas and a savory guacamole dip that was the perfect complement to the Thanksgiving staples. The combination of these two cultures created a unique and flavorful meal that I’ll remember for years to come. (I was so full; it was so delicious!!!)

Community Service: Giving Back This Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is also a time for giving back, and I had the opportunity to participate in a local community service project. Together with friends, we volunteered at the Betty Chinn Center, helping pack and distribute meals to families in need. It was heartwarming to be a part of something so meaningful, and it made me appreciate my own blessings even more. We made 350 Thanksgiving meal baskets for local families. This experience was a powerful reminder of the importance of community and the impact small acts of kindness can have on others.

A Baking Day at My Teacher’s House

One of the highlights of my holiday was a visit to my teacher’s house, where we spent the afternoon baking. We rolled up our sleeves and worked together to bake a batch of homemade pumpkin bread. The warm, comforting aroma of cinnamon and pumpkin filled the house, making it feel like the perfect fall day. (Even though we forgot to put in the yeast, the bread was still delicious! I hope I can do it again.)
After the pumpkin bread came out of the oven, we moved on to a fun and festive project – gingerbread house building! We decorated little gingerbread houses with icing, candy, and sprinkles. It was a wonderful way to unleash our creativity and get into the holiday spirit.

Bowling with Friends

The dorm administrator arranged a game of bowling. We spent hours laughing, cheering, and enjoying each other’s company. The fun atmosphere made it the perfect way to unwind after a busy holiday.
We also played laser tag, which was very exciting! It required strategy and cooperation.
It wasn’t just about the games though – it was about the memories we created together. These moments of fun and laughter are what made this Thanksgiving so special.

KFC with Friends: A Thanksgiving Twist

Not every meal had to be traditional. My friends and I decided to keep things casual and enjoy a delicious KFC feast together. We grabbed a bucket of crispy chicken. It was the perfect relaxed ending to a weekend.

This Thanksgiving holiday may not have been traditional, but it was filled with love, laughter, and gratitude. It was a reminder that the best part of the holidays is spending time with the people who matter most – whether that means sharing a unique meal, baking together, or just enjoying each other’s company.

I’m grateful for the wonderful friends, teachers, and experiences that made this Thanksgiving so unforgettable.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
